How to Rename a Contact List

Learn how to rename contact lists to keep them organized and easily identifiable. Renaming helps you maintain clear list names as your needs change.

Before You Begin

  • You must be logged in to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com
  • You need permission to manage contact lists (typically organization owners and admins have this permission)
  • A contact list to rename

Steps

Step 1: Navigate to Contact List

  1. Log in to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com/auth/login
  2. From the dashboard, go to Contact Lists (or CRM → Contact Lists)
  3. Find the contact list you want to rename
  4. Click on the list to open it

What happens next: You'll see the contact list details page.

Step 2: Open Edit Mode

  1. On the contact list page, look for Edit button
  2. Click Edit (or find rename option)
  3. Edit interface will open

What happens next: You'll see fields to edit list details.

Step 3: Change List Name

  1. Find Name field:

    • Name field is editable
    • Current name is displayed
    • You can change the name
  2. Enter new name:

    • Type the new list name
    • Make it clear and descriptive
    • Example: Change "List 1" to "Monthly Newsletter Subscribers"
    • Example: Change "Old List" to "Q4 Campaign List"

Note: Enter a clear, descriptive name for easy identification.

Step 4: Save Changes

  1. Review your new list name:
    • Name is clear and descriptive
    • Name accurately describes the list
    • Spelling is correct
  2. Click Save (or Save Changes)
    • List name will be updated
    • You'll see a confirmation
  3. New name will take effect immediately

What happens next: List name will be updated and:

  • New name appears in contact lists
  • List is easier to identify
  • Name is updated everywhere
  • Contacts remain unchanged

Tips

  • Use clear, descriptive names
  • Include purpose or campaign in name
  • Keep names consistent
  • Update names when list purpose changes
  • Review list names regularly

Troubleshooting

Problem: I don't see Edit option Solution: Check that:

  • You have permission to manage contact lists
  • You're viewing the contact list details
  • Edit feature is available

Solution: Verify you have access to contact lists. Make sure you're viewing list details.

Problem: Name isn't saving Solution: Check that:

  • Name field is filled in
  • Name is valid
  • Changes are saved

Solution: Verify name is entered and save changes. Check for error messages.

Problem: I want to change list type Solution: List type (Email or SMS) cannot be changed:

  • Create a new list with correct type if needed
  • Copy contacts to new list
  • Delete old list if desired

Solution: Create a new list with the correct type. List type is set when creating and cannot be changed.
