How to Manage Site Redirects
Learn how to create and manage URL redirects for your site. Redirects help maintain SEO when URLs change and ensure visitors find the right content.
Before You Begin
- You must be logged in to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com
- You need permission to manage sites (typically organization owners and admins have this permission)
- A site to configure redirects for
Steps
Step 1: Navigate to Site Settings
- Log in to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com/auth/login
- From the dashboard, go to Sites → select your site
- Find Redirects section
What happens next: You'll see redirect management interface.
Step 2: Open Redirects Section
- In site settings, find Redirects section
- Click to open redirect management
- You'll see existing redirects (if any)
What happens next: You'll see redirect list and add options.
Step 3: Add Redirect Rule
Click Add Redirect (or Create Redirect):
- Redirect form will open
- Fields for redirect configuration
Redirect form fields:
- From: Old URL path
- To: New URL path
- Other redirect options
Note: Redirects map old URLs to new URLs.
Step 4: Configure Redirect
Enter From URL:
- Enter the old URL path you want to redirect
- Example: "/old-page" or "/blog/old-post"
- This is where visitors currently go (or used to go)
Enter To URL:
- Enter the new URL path where visitors should go
- Example: "/new-page" or "/blog/new-post"
- This is where visitors will be redirected
Redirect type (if available):
- 301 Permanent: Permanent redirect (SEO-friendly)
- 302 Temporary: Temporary redirect
- Choose appropriate type
Note: Configure redirect to map old URL to new URL.
Step 5: Save Redirect
- Review your redirect configuration:
- From URL is correct
- To URL is correct
- Redirect type is appropriate
- Click Save (or Add Redirect)
- Redirect will be created
- You'll see it in redirect list
- You'll see a confirmation
What happens next: Redirect will be created and:
- Old URL redirects to new URL
- Visitors are automatically redirected
- SEO value is preserved
- Redirect is active immediately
Step 6: Manage Redirects
View all redirects:
- See list of all redirect rules
- View From and To URLs
- See redirect status
Edit or delete redirects:
- Edit redirects to update URLs
- Delete redirects if no longer needed
- Manage redirect rules as needed
Note: You can manage multiple redirects to handle URL changes.
Tips
- Use 301 redirects for permanent URL changes (SEO-friendly)
- Use 302 redirects for temporary changes
- Redirect old URLs when content moves
- Test redirects to ensure they work correctly
- Remove redirects when no longer needed
Troubleshooting
Problem: I don't see Redirects section Solution: Check that:
- You're viewing site settings
- Redirects feature is enabled
- You have permission to manage sites
Solution: Make sure you're viewing site settings. Contact support if redirects aren't available.
Problem: Redirect isn't working Solution: Check that:
- Redirect is saved correctly
- URLs are formatted correctly
- Site is published
Solution: Verify redirect is saved and URLs are correct. Check site is published.
Problem: Redirect goes to wrong URL Solution: Check redirect configuration:
- Verify From URL is correct
- Verify To URL is correct
- Edit redirect if needed
Solution: Review redirect settings and edit if URLs are incorrect.
Problem: I want to remove a redirect Solution: To remove redirect:
- Go to redirects list
- Find redirect to remove
- Click Delete or Remove
- Confirm deletion
Solution: Delete redirects from the redirects list. They can be recreated if needed.
