How to Invite a Customer to Claim Their Account
Learn how to invite customers to claim their accounts so they can manage their own payments, subscriptions, and bookings. When customers claim their accounts, they can log in, update their profiles, and manage their relationship with your organization.
Before You Begin
- You must be logged in to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com
- You need permission to manage customers (typically organization owners and admins have this permission)
- The customer must exist in your roster
- The customer must have a valid email address
Steps
Step 1: Navigate to Customer Profile
- Log in to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com/auth/login
- From the dashboard, click CRM in the left sidebar
- You'll see your customer roster
- Find the customer you want to invite:
- Search by name or email
- Browse the customer list
- Click on the customer to open their profile
Step 2: Open Customer Profile
- Click on the customer's name or row in the roster
- You'll be taken to the customer's profile page
- You'll see customer details, booking history, payment history, and other information
What happens next: You'll see the customer profile with various sections and actions.
Step 3: Find the Invite Action
- On the customer profile page, look for:
- Invite to claim account button
- Send invite button
- Or an invite action in the customer actions menu
- The button may be in:
- The top actions area
- A customer actions dropdown
- The account management section
Note: If the customer has already claimed their account, you may not see an invite option.
Step 4: Verify Customer Email
- Before sending the invite, verify the customer's email address:
- Check that the email is correct in the customer profile
- Make sure the email is valid and active
- Update the email if needed before sending the invite
Important: The invite will be sent to the email address on file, so make sure it's correct.
Step 5: Send the Invite
- Click Invite to claim account (or Send invite)
- A confirmation may appear asking you to verify the email
- Click Send invite to confirm
- The button will show a loading state while sending
- You'll see a success message when complete
What happens next: An email will be sent to the customer with instructions to claim their account.
Step 6: Customer Receives Invite
The customer will receive an email containing:
- Instructions to claim their account
- A link to set up their password
- Information about what they can do once they claim their account
- A link to a walk-through video (if available)
Note: The invite email includes a secure link that allows the customer to set up their password and claim their account.
What Happens After Customer Claims Account
Once the customer claims their account, they can:
- Log in to the customer app at https://app.joinzipper.com
- Set their own password
- Update their profile and custom fields
- View their booking history (appointments, classes, events)
- Manage payment methods through Stripe portal
- View their purchase history and subscriptions
- Manage their own account settings
Tips
- Always verify email addresses before sending invites
- Send invites to customers who want to manage their own accounts
- Customers can claim accounts anytime after receiving the invite
- You can resend invites if customers don't receive them
- Invites include secure links that expire after a period of time
Troubleshooting
Problem: I don't see the "Invite to claim account" button Solution: Check that:
- The customer exists in your roster
- The customer hasn't already claimed their account
- You have permission to manage customers
- The customer has a valid email address
Problem: Customer didn't receive the invite email Solution: Check that:
- The customer's email address is correct
- The email address is valid and active
- Email notifications aren't disabled
- The email didn't go to spam/junk folder
You can resend the invite if needed.
Problem: Customer says the invite link doesn't work Solution: Invite links expire after a period of time. You can:
- Resend a new invite to the customer
- Check that the customer is using the link from the most recent email
- Contact support if the issue persists
Problem: Customer already has an account Solution: If the customer has already claimed their account, they can log in directly. You don't need to send another invite. They can use the "Forgot password" option if they don't remember their password.
Problem: I want to invite multiple customers at once Solution: Currently, invites are sent individually. You can:
- Send invites to customers one by one
- Use bulk operations if available in your organization
- Contact support for bulk invite options
