How to Duplicate a Contact List
Learn how to duplicate contact lists to create variations quickly. Duplicating lists helps you create new lists with all contacts from an existing list.
Before You Begin
- You must be logged in to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com
- You need permission to manage contact lists (typically organization owners and admins have this permission)
- A contact list to duplicate
Steps
Step 1: Navigate to Contact List
- Log in to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com/auth/login
- From the dashboard, go to Contact Lists (or CRM → Contact Lists)
- Find the contact list you want to duplicate
- Click on the list to open it
What happens next: You'll see the contact list details page.
Step 2: Find Duplicate Option
- On the contact list page, look for Duplicate button or option
- This option is typically:
- In the list actions menu
- Next to Edit or Delete options
- In list settings
Note: Duplicate option creates a copy of the list with all contacts.
Step 3: Start Duplication
- Click Duplicate (or find duplicate option)
- Duplication interface will open
- You'll see options to name the duplicated list
What happens next: You'll see a form to name the duplicated list.
Step 4: Enter Name for Duplicated List
Enter name for duplicated list:
- Type a name for the new list
- Default name may be provided (e.g., "Copy of [Original List Name]")
- Change to a descriptive name
- Example: "Summer Campaign List" or "Q4 Newsletter List"
Name considerations:
- Make it clear and descriptive
- Differentiate from original list
- Include purpose or campaign name
Note: Enter a clear name for the duplicated list.
Step 5: Confirm Duplication
- Review duplication details:
- Original list is correct
- New list name is appropriate
- All contacts will be copied
- Click Confirm or Duplicate
- Duplication will begin
- You'll see progress indicator
- Duplication completes automatically
What happens next: List will be duplicated and:
- New list is created with all contacts
- Contacts are copied to new list
- New list appears in contact lists
- Original list remains unchanged
- You can modify duplicated list independently
How Duplication Works
When you duplicate a list:
Contact copying:
- All contacts from original list are copied
- Contacts appear in both lists
- Contacts remain in original list
Independent lists:
- Duplicated list is separate
- Changes to one list don't affect the other
- You can modify lists independently
List management:
- Both lists can be edited separately
- Contacts can be added/removed independently
- Lists are managed separately

Troubleshooting

Problem: I want to delete the duplicated list Solution: To delete duplicated list:
- Go to contact lists
- Find duplicated list
- Click Delete
- Confirm deletion
- List is removed (contacts remain in system)
Solution: Delete duplicated lists from contact lists. Contacts aren't deleted, only removed from list.
