How to Delete a Contact List

Learn how to delete contact lists when they're no longer needed. Deleting a list removes contacts from the list but doesn't delete the contacts themselves.

Before You Begin

  • You must be logged in to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com
  • You need permission to manage contact lists (typically organization owners and admins have this permission)
  • A contact list to delete

Steps

Step 1: Navigate to Contact List

  1. Log in to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com/auth/login
  2. From the dashboard, go to Contact Lists (or CRM → Contact Lists)
  3. Find the contact list you want to delete
  4. Click on the list to open it

What happens next: You'll see the contact list details page.

Step 2: Find Delete Option

  1. On the contact list page, look for Delete button or option
  2. This option is typically:
    • In the list actions menu
    • Next to Edit or other options
    • In list settings
    • May require confirmation

Note: Delete option removes the list but not the contacts.

Step 3: Confirm Deletion

  1. Click Delete (or find delete option)

  2. A confirmation dialog will appear

  3. Review deletion details:

    • List will be deleted
    • Contacts remain in your system
    • Contacts are only removed from this list
    • Deletion cannot be undone
  4. Confirm deletion:

    • Click Confirm or Delete in dialog
    • Or type confirmation text if required
    • Deletion will proceed

Important: Deletion is permanent. Make sure you want to delete the list.

Step 4: Verify Deletion

  1. Check list is deleted:

    • List no longer appears in contact lists
    • Deletion is complete
    • Contacts remain in your system
  2. Contacts are preserved:

    • Contacts still exist
    • They're just removed from this list
    • Contacts can be added to other lists

What happens next: List will be deleted and:

  • Removed from contact lists
  • Contacts are preserved in your system
  • Contacts are removed from this list only
  • Deletion is permanent

How List Deletion Works

When you delete a list:

  1. List removal:

    • List is deleted permanently
    • Cannot be recovered
    • Removed from all views
  2. Contact preservation:

    • Contacts remain in your system
    • Contacts aren't deleted
    • Contacts can be added to other lists
  3. Impact:

    • No impact on contacts themselves
    • Only removes list association
    • Safe to delete lists

Tips

  • Delete lists you no longer need
  • Remember contacts aren't deleted
  • Review lists before deleting
  • Export contacts if you want a backup
  • Delete unused lists to stay organized

Troubleshooting

Problem: I don't see Delete option Solution: Check that:

  • You have permission to manage contact lists
  • Delete feature is available
  • You're viewing the contact list details

Solution: Verify you have access to contact lists. Contact support if delete feature isn't available.

Problem: Deletion fails Solution: Check that:

  • List exists and is accessible
  • You have permission to delete
  • System is working correctly

Solution: Verify list exists and you have permissions. Try again or contact support if issues persist.

Problem: I want to recover a deleted list Solution: Deleted lists cannot be recovered:

  • Deletion is permanent
  • Contacts remain in your system
  • You can create a new list and add contacts

Solution: Create a new list and add contacts if needed. Deleted lists cannot be recovered.

Problem: Contacts were deleted Solution: Contacts shouldn't be deleted:

  • Only list is deleted
  • Contacts remain in your system
  • Check other lists or contact roster

Solution: Verify contacts exist in other lists or contact roster. List deletion doesn't delete contacts.
