How to Create a Virtual Class

Learn how to create virtual or online classes with meeting links. Virtual classes allow you to offer online instruction to customers who can't attend in person, or create hybrid experiences that combine physical and virtual attendance.

Before You Begin

  • You must be logged in to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com
  • You need permission to manage schedules (typically organization owners and admins have this permission)
  • Have your virtual meeting link ready (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc.)

Steps

Step 1: Start Creating a Class

  1. Log in to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com/auth/login
  2. From the dashboard, click Calendar in the left sidebar
  3. Click the Create button in the top right
  4. Select Class from the dropdown menu

What happens next: The class creation wizard opens.

Step 2: Enter Class Details

  1. Name: Enter the name of your virtual class
  2. Color: Choose a color to identify the class on your calendar
  3. Description: Describe what the class covers and that it's virtual

Tip: Mention that the class is virtual in the description so customers know what to expect.

Step 3: Configure Virtual Location

  1. In the scheduling step, for each time slot:

    • Location Type: Select "Virtual" (or "Hybrid" for combined physical/virtual)
    • Meeting Link: Enter your Zoom, Google Meet, or other meeting link
    • Meeting Instructions: Add any login instructions or passwords if needed
  2. For Virtual classes:

    • The meeting link will be shared with registered customers
    • Customers receive the link in confirmation and reminder emails
    • The link is visible in their customer dashboard
  3. For Hybrid classes:

    • Set both a physical location AND a meeting link
    • Customers can choose their preferred attendance method
    • Both options are communicated to registrants

What happens next: Your class is configured for virtual attendance.

Step 4: Complete Class Setup

  1. Continue through the remaining wizard steps:

    • Scheduling: Set days, times, and date ranges
    • Payment: Configure pricing options
    • Registration: Set up forms and capacity
  2. Click Create class to finish

What happens next: Your virtual class is created and ready for registrations.

How Virtual Class Links Are Shared

Once customers register for your virtual class:

  1. Confirmation Email: Meeting link included in registration confirmation
  2. Reminder Emails: Link included in class reminder emails
  3. Customer Dashboard: Customers see the link in their upcoming classes
  4. Day-Of Access: Easy access to join the class from their account

The meeting link is only visible to registered customers, protecting your virtual classroom.

Tips

  • Use consistent meeting links if your platform supports recurring meetings
  • Test your meeting link before the first class
  • Include timezone information, especially for virtual classes with remote attendees
  • Consider recording virtual classes for customers who can't attend live
  • For hybrid classes, ensure you have the right setup to manage both in-person and virtual attendees

Troubleshooting

Problem: Customers say they didn't receive the meeting link Solution: Check that:

  • The meeting link is entered in the class/time slot settings
  • Confirmation emails are enabled
  • Customer's email is valid

Solution: You can manually share the link, or have them view it in their customer dashboard.

Problem: Meeting link isn't working Solution: Check that:

  • The link is valid and active
  • The meeting hasn't expired
  • You've entered the complete URL including https://

Solution: Test the link yourself and update it in the class settings if needed.

Problem: Customers joined the wrong meeting Solution: If you have multiple virtual classes:

  • Use different meeting links for different classes
  • Clearly label classes in the descriptions
  • Include the class name in your meeting room title
