How to Configure Custom Field Visibility

Learn how to configure who can see and edit custom fields for customers. Visibility settings help you control access to sensitive information and customize field access for different users.

Before You Begin

  • You must be logged in to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com
  • You need permission to manage custom fields (typically organization owners and admins have this permission)
  • A custom field created that you want to configure

Step 1: Navigate to Custom Fields

  1. Log in to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com/auth/login
  2. From the dashboard, go to Organization Management → Custom Fields
  3. You'll see your custom fields list

What happens next: You'll see all your custom fields.

Step 2: Select Custom Field

  1. Find the custom field you want to configure
  2. Click on the field to open it
  3. Or click Edit next to the field

What happens next: The custom field edit form will open.

Step 3: Find Visibility Settings

  1. In the field edit form, find Visibility settings
  2. This section contains:
    • Who can see the field
    • Who can edit the field
    • Customer visibility options

Note: Visibility settings control access to custom field values.

Step 4: Configure Who Can See the Field

  1. Set visibility options:

    • Team only: Only your team members can see this field
    • Visible to customer: Customer can see this field (if configured)
    • Specific visibility: Set custom visibility rules if available
  2. Visibility levels:

    • Control who can view field values
    • Restrict sensitive information
    • Allow customer access when appropriate

Note: Field visibility controls who can see the field values.

Step 5: Configure Who Can Edit the Field

  1. Set edit permissions:

    • Team only: Only team members can edit
    • Customer can edit: Customer can edit their own field values
    • Read-only: Field can be viewed but not edited
  2. Edit permissions:

    • Control who can modify field values
    • Restrict editing to authorized users
    • Allow customer editing when appropriate

Note: Edit permissions control who can modify field values.

Step 6: Configure Customer Visibility

  1. Set customer visibility (if applicable):

    • Visible to customer: Customer can see this field in their account
    • Hidden from customer: Customer can't see this field
    • Customer can edit: Customer can edit their own values
  2. Customer visibility considerations:

    • Some fields should be visible to customers
    • Some fields should be team-only
    • Balance transparency with privacy

Note: Customer visibility determines if customers can see fields in their accounts.

Step 7: Save Field

  1. Review your visibility configuration:
    • Who can see is set correctly
    • Who can edit is configured appropriately
    • Customer visibility is set (if applicable)
  2. Click Save
    • Visibility settings will be saved
    • You'll see a confirmation
  3. Visibility settings will take effect immediately

What happens next: Visibility settings will be configured and:

  • Field visibility is controlled based on settings
  • Edit permissions are enforced
  • Customer access is configured
  • Settings apply to all field values

Tips

  • Set appropriate visibility for sensitive information
  • Allow customer access to relevant fields
  • Restrict editing to authorized users
